Friday 2nd June
Another hot sunny morning to drive 69 miles to Meissen,
just stopping for a fuel fill-up on the way, so we arrived at the Wellenspiel Stellplatz which was in a gated area behind the swimming
pool.
After lunch we went for a wander and located the nearest
bus stop in to the town and got times for Saturday. This Sunday and Monday are Bank holidays in
Germany so we are not sure what will be open nor what transport is like.
It got very hot and muggy again by the evening and we sat
outside with our coffees until 9.00pm.
Saturday 3rd
Somewhat cloudier this morning but still very warm. We caught the 11.00 bus in to town directly
to the Porcelain factory and museum. We
went on a 1 hour guided tour (with English headsets) to see how their porcelain
is made and hand-painted even today. It was fascinating to see the fine brushes
and pens used to put the very intricate designs on. Then we had a browse through the museum and
inevitable shop for about another hour. The beautiful models and dinner services,
candlestick holders and thimble amongst other things were gorgeous, but the
prices made our eyes water. (Sorry, Mon,
you are not getting a thimble at 26 euros!)
Then a meander back through the
market square, where a wedding had just come out of the town hall and were doing their photographs, stopping for a cold drink and a visit to the tourist office to
see what we might do on Sunday or Monday, across the bridge to the bus station
to wait 45 minutes for the bus back.
Next door to the swimming pool was a Toom, equivalent to
our B&Q, with a garden centre and all the tools etc. and it was
air-conditioned, most welcoming to us in the muggy heat. By dinner-time the sky was black and once
more we had thunder and lightning, wind and rain, but luckily not the
hailstones this time.
Sunday 4th
It rained on and off all night, and was still pouring
down in the morning so we had a lie-in.
Then just did some chores around the van, some typing and sorting photos
off the camera.
It
dried up after dinner so we went for a short walk in the woods, but as we got
lost it turned out to be best part of an hour! A few more vans in here tonight.
